Program Features: Daily Graph

Symbol Entry Field/Daily Graph ButtonThe Stock Graphs service provides the ability to view graphs on a Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Intraday basis. With the Daily chart, each price and volume bar represents one day of trading activity. From this graph, it is possible to see up to two years of price and volume history.

The Daily chart is designed to provide essential fundamental information along with a detailed chart. Information on this chart includes:

  • Company information: Business Description, Symbol, Exchange, Industry Group, Price/Volume items, and Web address link.
  • SmartSelect® and other proprietary data items.
  • Annual EPS, Earnings Estimates and Historical Price Range.
  • Quarterly EPS, Sales, Price/Earnings Range, and Dividends.
  • Daily Price (high/low/close), Volume bars, moving average price and volume lines, Relative Price Strength Rating and Relative Strength Line.
  • Plus many more items (click image below for details)

Daily Graph

To enhance the use of this graph, we provide tools to perform the following tasks:

Identify and Define Items

To identify and obtain the definition of any item on the chart, access our Daily Image Maps. The Image Maps are an interactive resource that makes it easy to identify and define any graph item. Simply place the cursor over the Image Map, click the item, and a new window will open with the desired information.

This resource is available from the Stock Graphs program "Help" menu and our Customer Service web page.

Modify Appearance

With the Daily graphs, it is possible to create trend lines, remove data items, modify the volume scale interval, and create custom price moving average lines. All modifications are made via items on the Tools menu. For information on modifying the charts, reference the Tools section of the Program Features.

LINE PEN
This tool provides the ability to draw red linear lines on the graph. It is particularly useful in identifying a variety of technical chart patterns.

ANNOTATIONS
Add comments, lines, curves, shaded fields, and more, to any stock or index graph. Annotations are viewable from multiple computers or from printed graphs. Our Annotated Charts List organizes these charts and provides additional features.

STOCHASTIC OSCILLATOR
This technical tool is useful to long term and short term investors when determining buy and sell signals.

CHANGE DATE
This feature allows detailed daily price/volume activity over the last five years.

CUSTOM MOVING AVERAGES
Daily graphs are presented with price moving average lines based on 50-day (red) and 200-day (black) intervals. The Custom Moving Averages tool allows two additional lines to be added to the graphs, based on a price moving average interval of 1 day to 199 days.

INFORMATION BOXES
A Daily graph contains strategically placed information at the top (Company Information Box), bottom (Quarterly Data Boxes), and on the top left corner of chart (Data Boxes). To enhance the technical view of the graph, we provide tools to remove some or all of these information boxes.

EVENTS
In addition to price bars and lines on a graph, many stocks will contain data related to Corporate Events, Publication Events, and Insider Transactions. These items may be removed for an unobstructed view of the price bars, Relative Strength line, and price moving average lines.

VOLUME SCALE
The default volume scale for the graphs is one that utilizes a logarithmic interval—one based on percentage change. The Daily graph provides the option to view the volume bars based on an arithmetic interval—one with a constant numeric change.

Obtain Price/Volume Details

To determine the price and volume details for the current trading day, for any trading sessions on a chart, or to create horizontal and vertical lines to align items on the chart with its corresponding date or scale, utilize the Track-Price tool.

Track-Price Data To access this tool, place the cursor over the desired price or volume bar, then press and hold down the right mouse button. This will prompt the Track-Price Box to open in the upper left area of the chart and Track-Price Lines to center on the location of the cursor. Releasing the mouse button will remove the Track-Price features.

To keep the Track-Price function enabled without having to press the right mouse button, simply activate the Track-Price tool by pressing the right mouse button while moving the cursor over the Track-Price window, and then releasing the mouse button. As long as the cursor is kept over the chart area, the Track-Price features will remain enabled. When viewing the weekly charts, the Data Boxes must be hidden, which can be done through the Tools menu. To close the Track-Price tool from this always enabled setting, move the cursor off the chart area or click the right mouse button.

Access Recent Graph Symbols

The Stock Graphs service provides two ways of accessing the symbols of recently viewed graphs:

Both features will list the symbols of stocks, indices, Daily Market Indicators, and Daily Market Averages. Symbols will be displayed in the order they are accessed, with the most recently accessed symbol appearing at the top of the list. If a symbol is accessed repeatedly, it will appear on the list only once, in the order it was most recently viewed.

The main difference in these features is how they are accessed and updated. The Symbol Field List appears as a drop-down list, or as an individual symbol in the display field. The list of symbols is refreshed each time a chart is viewed.

The Recent Symbol List, in contrast, opens in a separate window that may be moved, resized, and is always accessible until it is closed. The symbols in this list will remain static until it is manually updated.

SYMBOL FIELD LIST
This feature provides access to symbols of recently viewed graphs in two ways, from a drop-down list, or as an individual symbol in the display field.

To view a list of up to 10 symbols, click the down-arrow button located to the right of the Symbol Field. Click any symbol on the drop-down list to view its graph.

NOTE: The Symbol Field List down-arrow button is accessible when the display pixel setting is 1024x768 or greater.

To view up to 20 symbols, one at a time in the Symbol Field, use the "Page Down" and "Page Up" keys. The Page Down key will allow one to navigate from the top of the recent symbol list to the bottom. The Page Up key will display symbols as one navigates back up the list. When the desired symbol is displayed, press the "Enter" key to view its graph.

RECENT SYMBOLS LIST
To view a list containing the names and symbols of up to 20 recently viewed graphs, simultaneously press the "Ctrl" and "Home" keys. This list will appear in a detached window that may be moved, resized, and will remain open until its window is closed. The items on this list are static and will not change until the "Update List" button (at the end of the list) is utilized. Click any item on the list to view its graph.

NOTE: The Symbol Field List and Recent Symbols List are accessible only when using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 (or greater), Firefox version 1.0 (or greater), or Netscape version 7.0 (or greater).
