Getting Started with Daily Graphs Online

The following is an overview of the Daily Graphs Online features. It contains a brief explanation of how to access the many resources we provide. For additional assistance, please refer to Daily Graphs Help (found under Help on the top menu bar of the program), the resources available under the "Info For You" menu, or send an e-mail to us at custserv@dailygraphs.com.

Once our software has been installed and an active usercode/password has been obtained, you are ready to begin using our service. The first step involves establishing a connection to your Internet Service Provider. Once this procedure is completed, click the gray Daily Graphs Online icon located in the Daily Graphs folder (Microsoft Start button | Programs | Daily Graphs).  This will open the Daily Graphs Login window where you will need to enter your assigned usercode and the password you created. Clicking the "OK" button will launch the program and begin a session with our service. When you see a mostly white screen with a blue box (see exhibit below), you are ready to begin using the service.

With Daily Graphs Online, you will have a wealth of information at your finger-tips.   You may like to begin using this service by utilizing the following features:

Retrieving a Graph of a stock:
The most common way to start using Daily Graphs Online is to retrieve the Graph of a stock. When the Daily Graphs Online program opens, you will see a white screen with a message that reads "Enter Symbol" and an arrow pointing to a blue box (the "ticker symbol box").  This box is used to display the ticker symbol letters of the index or stock that you want to view or are currently viewing.

To enter a symbol for a stock, simply click anywhere on the Daily Graphs Online application and then use your computer keyboard to type the symbol of a stock or index.  It is not necessary to click specifically on this blue symbol box in order to begin typing a symbol. The blue box field will never show a a flashing cursor. Once you have typed a stock symbol, you may retrieve a graph by pressing the ENTER key, the F1 function key, or by using your mouse to click on the "Graph" button.

Retrieving a Datablock:
The Datablock screen is a feature that provides extensive fundamental data on a particular equity. It is available for all stocks in the William O'Neil Database.

To access the Datablock information, type the stock's ticker symbol and click the "Datablock" button or press the F2 function key. While in the Datablock screen, typing a new stock symbol and pressing the ENTER key or the F2 function key will prompt the retrieval of another Datablock.

Retrieving a chart of a market index or indicator:
To access the chart of a market index or indicator, begin by clicking on the "Market" button, or pressing the F3 function key.  This will open a drop-down menu that will list all of the available indices and indicators. With the drop-down menu opened, select an index by highlighting the item with the mouse cursor and clicking it, or by highlighting the item with the up/down arrow keys and then pressing the ENTER key.
Retrieving a Daily Graphs Report:
To access the Daily Graphs Report menu, simply click the "Reports" button, or press the F4 function key. This will open a drop-down menu to allow the selection of a number of Reports. With the drop-down menu opened, select the desired report by highlighting the item with the mouse cursor and clicking it, or by highlighting the item with the up/down arrow keys and then pressing "Enter".

With an opened Daily Graphs report, please take note of several features designed to save you time and effort when viewing Graphs or screening data:

Report Window
  • To view the graph of any company in a report list, double-click anywhere on a stock's row, or click to highlight an item and press "Enter";
  • To sort on any data item, click on the column header once to sort on an ascending basis.  Clicking twice will sort that data item on a descending basis.
  • To quickly and easily scroll through the Graphs, simply click on a stock and press the "Space Bar" (on your keyboard) to view the Graph or Datablock of each stock in a descending order;
  • The data in every Report is exportable to permit additional research. Simply click on the Lotus icon, the Excel icon or the text file icon (all in the upper left corner of the Report window) to move the data to the respective programs. For detailed instructions on how to sort and filter Report data to create a selected universe of stocks based on your own investment criteria, please refer to our Tips & Tricks section.
Creating a Stock List:
The Stock List feature is relatively simple to setup, use, and is a great time saver for those who want to review particular sets of stocks or indices.

To access the Stock List, click on the File menu (top toolbar). This will open the drop-down menu. Click on "Stock Lists". This will open the Stock List Menu.

The Stock List Menu provides controls for creating and displaying Stock Lists. When the Stock List Menu is first accessed, it will contain one Stock List called "Watch List". It is a List that does not contain any stocks or indices. It is included in the Stock List Menu to assist our subscribers in using this feature.  The Watch List may be used to store a list of your favorite symbols, or a new List with a personalized name may be created by clicking the Create button.

ADDING SYMBOLS TO A STOCK LIST
When a Stock List window is opened for the first time, it will be empty. A Stock List window is capable of storing stock symbols, index symbols or both. A symbol may be added to a Stock List in a number of ways:

  • Type a symbol (it will appear in the blue ticker symbol box) and click the Add button on the Stock List window;
  • Type a symbol and press the Insert key (located on your keyboard near the Insert key);
  • When viewing the chart of a stock or index, press the Add button on the Stock List window to add that item;
  • When a Report window is open, a stock may be added by clicking and dragging the stock from the Report window and dropping it in the Stock List window (see the Stock List section of Tips & Tricks for details on this and other suggestions).
  • Note: When an item is added or deleted in a Stock List, a confirmation message will appear in a gray box for a brief period of time.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
When finished using a Stock List, click the Exit button to close the List.  The contents of the List will be saved for future use. The contents of a Stock List may be changed at anytime to includes adding and deleting stocks/indices from the List.
